A garden after dark, designed to be just as beautiful.

Good outdoor lighting is invisible until it isn't.

A garden without an outdoor lighting scheme effectively stops being usable at dusk. In Bangalore, where the evenings are often the most pleasant time to be outside — especially in the months after monsoon, when the air is cool and clear — a garden that is not lit is a garden that is wasted for the best part of the day.

We design outdoor lighting schemes that extend the garden into the evening without glare, without waste, and without the fixtures becoming visually dominant during daylight hours. Good outdoor lighting is invisible until it is switched on. The fixtures disappear into the planting or the hardscape during the day. At night, the garden transforms — the uplighting on the specimen tree, the wash of light along the pathway, the warm glow in the seating area.

Our outdoor lighting design process covers four categories: feature lighting for specimen trees and plants, path lighting for safe movement through the garden after dark, ambient lighting for seating and dining areas, and accent lighting for architectural elements, water features, and garden structures. Each category has different fixture types, different beam angles, and different colour temperatures. We specify all of these in coordination with the electrical consultant or contractor.

We specify LED fixtures throughout — for their longevity, their energy efficiency, and the quality of light they produce. Colour temperature for outdoor use is typically 2700K to 3000K — warm enough to feel inviting, cool enough to render plant colours accurately. We avoid the cool blue-white light that makes gardens feel like car parks.

Outdoor lighting is available as a standalone service and as an integrated element of our full landscape design projects. It works particularly well alongside our water feature and pergola design services, where lighting is an integral part of the finished experience. See the full range of landscape services.

How We Work

What goes into an outdoor lighting scheme that feels effortless.

01 — Evening Walk & Brief

The best way to understand a garden's lighting potential is to visit it after dark. We always include an evening site visit in our lighting design process — walking through the space as you would use it, identifying the elements worth highlighting, the paths that need to be navigable, and the ambient areas where a quality of light rather than a specific illuminated object is the goal. This visit shapes the entire lighting design.

02 — Zoning & Layout Design

We design the scheme in four zones: feature lighting, path lighting, ambient lighting, and accent lighting. Each zone has its own dimmer circuit so the garden can be configured differently for a quiet evening alone and for a dinner with guests. We produce a complete lighting layout drawing showing fixture positions, cable routes, switching zones, and dimmer specifications — everything an electrician needs to install exactly what was designed.

03 — Fixture Selection

We specify fixtures based on their optical performance and durability, not their price or appearance in a catalogue. The fixture's job is to disappear during the day and produce excellent light at night. We specify IP65-rated LED fixtures for all ground-level and planting positions, with beam angles and colour temperatures chosen specifically for each location in the scheme.

04 — Electrical Coordination

We coordinate with your electrical contractor throughout the installation phase — verifying cable routes before trenches are backfilled, confirming fixture positions before the final surface is laid, and reviewing the completed installation before switchover. We identify issues at the stage when they can still be resolved easily, not after the garden is finished.

05 — Night-time Commissioning

We return to site after dark to commission the lighting scheme. Every fixture is aimed and adjusted in the conditions it will actually be seen in. Uplighting angles are refined to achieve the intended silhouette. Dimmer levels are set for each zone. A lighting scheme commissioned in the dark — as it should be — looks significantly better than one adjusted by eye in daylight.

06 — Operating Notes & Handover

You receive a complete record of the scheme: fixture schedule, lamp specifications, dimmer settings, and a note on when and how to clean outdoor fixtures to maintain their output. LED fixtures last many years without maintenance; the primary upkeep is keeping lenses clean. We explain what to watch for and when to call us.

Questions

What people ask about outdoor lighting design.

What type of outdoor lighting fixtures do you specify?

We specify LED throughout — for longevity, energy efficiency, and the quality of light they produce. Colour temperature for outdoor use is typically 2700K to 3000K: warm enough to feel inviting, cool enough to render plant colours accurately at night. We specify IP65-rated fixtures for ground and planting areas, and IP44 or higher for covered but exposed positions. We avoid decorative fixtures that prioritise appearance over performance and specify fittings that will last a minimum of ten years in outdoor conditions.

How is outdoor lighting powered and installed?

Via the home's existing electrical supply, through exterior-rated conduit run during the hardscape or planting phase. We coordinate lighting cable routes with the hardscape installation so conduit is buried before paths are laid — not cut into them afterwards. We work alongside your electrical contractor and provide a complete lighting layout with fixture positions, cable routes, switching zones, and dimmer requirements. For new builds, we engage from the structure stage so conduit is cast into floors and walls.

Can outdoor lighting be added to an existing Bangalore garden?

Yes — we design outdoor lighting schemes for existing gardens regularly. The approach is different from a new garden: we work around existing planting and hardscape, minimising disruption while maximising the effect. In most cases, surface-mounted conduit can be run along wall bases and concealed in planting beds without disturbing mature plants. The result is indistinguishable from a scheme that was designed from scratch — the garden looks as though it was always meant to be lit this way.

A garden at night should feel as good as it does at noon.
