THE STORY OF BOWERSCAPES

We don't just design spaces. We shape experiences.

A boutique design studio at the intersection of interior, landscape, and architecture — Bangalore & Goa.

Our Philosophy

Why we design the way we do

In the quiet corners of forests, where sunlight slips through leaves and the wind carries the scent of bark and earth, a small bird builds something extraordinary. The bowerbird does not build to survive. It builds to be chosen — arranging objects with a precision that has no practical purpose except beauty.

That instinct — to make something beautiful for the sake of it, with patience and intent — is the instinct we bring to every project. We believe that a space should make you feel something specific when you walk into it. Not vague contentment. Something specific: relief, expansion, warmth, stillness. The feeling is decided in the brief. The design is built around achieving it.

If we can identify that feeling at the outset — together with the client — and design toward it with honesty and craft, the rest follows naturally: the palette, the materials, the proportions, the light. The design becomes inevitable rather than arbitrary.

We hold a few convictions strongly enough that they shape every project. The first is that restraint is not the same as minimalism. A restrained interior is one where everything present earns its place; it may still be warm, layered, and full of colour. A minimal interior is a particular aesthetic. We are not advocates for any particular aesthetic, but we are strong advocates for restraint — for the discipline of removing what does not serve the space and the people in it.

The second conviction is that craft is not decoration. A well-made piece of furniture, a precisely jointed wall panel, a stone threshold that sits flush and true — these are not finishing details. They are the difference between a designed space and a built one. We commission from makers whose work we respect, and we pay attention to how things are made, not just how they look in a rendering.

The third is that a space should improve with age. Materials that patina, plants that mature, wood that deepens in colour over years of use — these are signs of good design, not evidence of wear. We specify accordingly. We are suspicious of finishes that look their best on installation day and of plants that peak in their first season. The spaces we design are meant to become more themselves over time, not less.

This is what guides our interior design work in Bangalore. This is what guides our landscape design work in Bangalore and Goa. It is not a methodology. It is a conviction. And if it aligns with the way you want your home to be designed, we should have a conversation.

"And that is where Bowerscapes was born."

Inspired by this instinct of nature, Bowerscapes carries forward the same philosophy — that every space, whether inside or outside, deserves thought, care, and creativity. We don’t just fill spaces. We clear them, understand them, and then shape them.

Like the bowerbird, we believe design isn’t about excess — it’s about intention. Every element has a purpose. Every detail adds meaning.

From interiors that feel like home the moment you step in, to landscapes that breathe and grow with you — Bowerscapes brings together architecture, interior, and nature into one seamless story.

The Studio

The people behind the spaces

I grew up paying attention to spaces. Not to their style — to how they made people behave. A low-ceilinged room makes conversations quieter. A kitchen with good light makes people linger after meals. A garden with one strong shade tree becomes the place everyone ends up on a Sunday afternoon. These are not design theories. They are observations anyone can make if they slow down enough to look.

I trained as a landscape architect and spent more than a decade working across residential, commercial, and public projects — in Bangalore primarily, and then increasingly in Goa, which has its own vocabulary of land, light, and architecture that took me years to understand properly.

I founded Bowerscapes because I wanted to work at a different pace. The studios I had worked with were good at volume. I wanted to be good at depth. That meant accepting fewer projects, spending more time in the early conversations, and being willing to say no to work that wasn’t the right fit — either for the client or for us.

The studio is based in Bangalore. We take on residential interior design projects across the city, with particular experience in apartments in central and east Bangalore, and villas in the northern corridors. Our landscape design work covers private gardens, terraces, courtyards, and outdoor settings for residential and hospitality properties — in Bangalore and in Goa.

Goa deserves a note of its own. The design problems there are different: higher humidity, laterite soil, the Portuguese architectural context, the presence of large old trees that must be designed around rather than over. We have learned to love these constraints. They produce a very different kind of garden and interior from what you’d design in Bangalore, and that difference is what makes the work interesting.

If you are considering a project — here or there — the right place to start is a conversation. Tell us what you have. We will tell you honestly what we can do with it, and whether we are the right studio for you.
