Landscape Design · Private Gardens

A garden designed to grow with the life you live in it.

The garden as a room without walls.

A private garden should be designed around the life of the family that will use it — not around a style or a trend. We begin every private garden design in Bangalore by asking how the garden will actually be used: meals outside, children’s play, a morning walk, weekend gatherings, a kitchen garden for herbs, a quiet corner for reading. The answers to those questions determine the structure of the garden before a single plant is chosen.

We have designed private gardens across Bangalore — in Whitefield, Koramangala, Sadashivanagar, Jayanagar, and Yelahanka — and in Goa, where the different climate and soil produce a very different kind of garden. In both cities, the design process is the same: site analysis first, spatial planning second, planting design third.

Site analysis in Bangalore means understanding the orientation of the garden relative to the sun, the direction of prevailing winds during and after the monsoon, the soil quality and drainage, and the condition of any existing planting. Bangalore’s red laterite soil is dense and drains slowly — a quality that must be managed through soil amendment and thoughtful plant selection, not ignored.

We design gardens that work across all of Bangalore’s seasons — the hot dry months of March to May, the monsoon from June to September, and the mild pleasant months that follow. This means selecting plants that have interest across the year, not just in the flowering season, and designing the structure of the garden so that it reads well even when the planting is in a dormant phase.

Every private garden project includes a complete planting plan, a hardscape and pathway design, irrigation recommendations, and a maintenance brief. Where relevant, we also incorporate water features and outdoor lighting into the design. Read more about the studio to understand our approach.

How We Work

From first visit to finished garden — a clear process at every stage.

01 — Site Survey & Brief

We begin with a detailed site visit — assessing soil type, drainage, sun exposure at different times of day, existing planting worth retaining, and the relationship between the garden and the interior spaces it is seen from. We then develop a written brief with you that sets out exactly what the garden needs to do: how you use it, who uses it, what maintenance commitment you are comfortable with, and what you love and dislike in other gardens.

02 — Concept Design

We present one or two design directions — spatial plans, planting approach, material palette, and mood imagery — and discuss these with you in detail. This is the creative phase: where the broad character of the garden is established. We refine the preferred direction until you are fully confident in the concept before moving to detailed design.

03 — Detailed Design & Plant Specification

The approved concept becomes a complete set of working documents: a scaled planting plan, a full plant schedule with species, sizes, quantities and sourcing guidance, material specifications for hardscape and structures, and a planting notes document explaining the logic and the maintenance requirements of every plant we have specified.

04 — Contractor & Nursery Engagement

We work with established contractors and nurseries in Bangalore and Goa whom we have vetted over years of projects. We do not take commission from any supplier — our recommendations are based entirely on quality and reliability. We obtain quotes on your behalf, assess them, and advise you on selection. You engage contractors directly; we manage the scope on your behalf.

05 — Implementation Supervision

We visit the site at key stages during implementation to ensure work is proceeding to our drawings and specifications. Hardscape is checked before planting begins. Planting positions are marked and reviewed before plants go in. We are available to answer contractor queries and resolve issues as they arise — without involving you in every small decision.

06 — Establishment & Handover

The six weeks after planting are the most critical. We monitor the establishment of the garden, make any necessary replacements, and adjust watering schedules. At handover, you receive a complete maintenance guide — seasonal tasks, species-specific care notes, and guidance for the first full year. The garden is designed to reward you for years. We make sure it starts well.

Questions

What people ask about private garden design in Bangalore.

How much does a private garden design cost in Bangalore?

Design fees are project-specific and depend on the size and complexity of the garden. We charge a flat design fee — not a percentage of construction cost, and no commission on plants, materials, or contractors. This means our specifications are driven by what is best for your garden, not what earns us the most. We are transparent about fees from our first conversation.

How long does a garden design project take from first meeting to finished garden?

The design phase typically takes four to eight weeks — site survey, concept design, your feedback, final drawings. Implementation varies widely: a small Bangalore villa garden can be planted in a week; a larger project with hardscape, water features, and custom elements may take three to four months. We give a realistic programme at the start of every project.

What garden style works best for Bangalore's climate?

Style is a secondary concern. The primary questions are: how does water drain through the site, what light does each area receive, and which species will genuinely thrive here rather than just survive? Native and adapted plants — species that have evolved for or proven themselves in Deccan conditions — form the backbone of every garden we plant. Within that framework, the aesthetic can be formal, naturalistic, tropical, or restrained, depending on your preference and the architecture of the house.
